We are honored and excited to announce the exhibit of Playdough, a Los Angeles debut solo show by, Matt Tripodi. The exhibition opens this Saturday, September 14th from 7pm - 10pm at our downtown Los Angeles space, Shit Art Club.

Matt Tripodi is a self-taught artist whose work resonates with a nostalgic energy of the 80s and 90s. His diverse interests inform his visual content and infuse his art with a humor, joy, and absurdity. Through painting and sculpture, Tripodi explores playful themes, often incorporating food, neon lights, diagrams, and childlike mark-making. While his style is light-hearted and whimsical, there is a depth to his work that reflects his musings on life, human experience, and artistic rebellion…

A native of Colorado, Matt has shown internationally as well as in multiple states.  However, Playdough, will be a Los Angeles solo debut for Tripodi and SAC is honored to promote his work in our lovely city.  In Matt’s own words, he describes this collection of work as the following:

PLAYDOUGH:  In this show, “play” is both the process and the point—a reminder that wit and intelligence don’t always have to take themselves too seriously.  The sculptures, both bold and familiar, reflect a stream-of-consciousness approach to creation—each piece born from the act of play and discovery. This spontaneity echoes the kind of unselfconscious experimentation we associate with childhood, but the themes and connections run much deeper - it’s the layers of wordplay, satire, and cultural and art historical references that make each piece linger with you. The sculptures encourage us to laugh, while the humor serves as a vehicle for something more subtle, clever, and nuanced.

Playdough has the perfect blend of technique, humor, and concept that makes it a seamless fit with what we aim to show at our space in downtown Los Angeles.  This is simply NOT an exhibit you will want to miss! SAC is extremely excited to host another sculpture exhibit and cannot imagine a more ideal artist to take the reins.

Keeping that in mind, everyone is invited this Saturday, September 14th to the celebration of Matt’s work and his authentic series that makes up, Playdough.  If you cannot make the opening, don’t worry!  We will have Tripodi’s show on view for a few weeks...  So, simply reach out (contact@shitartclub.com) to schedule a viewing or to see when the space will be open to the public.
