The COVID-69 Auction
SAC’s mission has been about supporting artists since day one. We dedicate ourselves to doing this by showcasing their work, connecting them with the community that we have built, and by doing anything else we think may be helpful. We have never aborted this mission, and we don't ever plan on doing so. It goes without saying that we are all overwhelmed by uncertainty during this unprecedented time, and despite the fact we are all in a similar boat, we are all sailing through different parts of this storm. Some of us are weathering it just fine, some of us are holding on tight as we get tossed around in the surf, and unfortunately some of us are taking on water and sinking fast.
Shit Art Club’s boat, the S.S. Bad Tim, has weathered more storms than Ahab and normally has Neptune by the short and curlies, but this one feels a little bit different. We recognize that this time is particularly difficult for artists, the art community as a whole (including us), and the community immediately surrounding SAC’s Headquarters in Downtown LA. We’d love nothing more than to be able to be partying with all of you and admiring @nickgrreen photographs that are supposed to be on our walls, but we can’t. We have been cooking up ideas that are a win win win for artists, our community, and SAC - and we think we just nailed a recipe that everyone is gonna like. Starting April 1st, we are kicking off our first auction ever, and we’re doing it online.
The COVID-69 AUCTION will feature one work by a featured artist per week. We recognize that finances may be tight, and for this reason, we are starting with an especially low reserve and leaving it up to the people to decide what they want to pay. A portion of Shit Art Club’s cut from each sale will be donated to Beauty 2 The Streetz, a non profit that works with the homeless on Skid Row in Los Angeles and provides them with the essentials that make them feel more human - showers, hearty meals, hygienic products and cosmetics. Please stay tuned for more details to come, and PLEASE help us help our artists and our community.
